Operating Our Transportation System for Better Performance: Elected Officials' Perspectives on Transportation Operations

The telecast will address the role of elected officials in helping to improve performance of the nation's transportation infrastructure. Elected officials are critical to assure cultural changes and can affect a paradigm shift in current thinking about improving infrastructure performance. Many States and localities are working to alleviate the challenges they face by adopting more progressive strategies for operating transportation systems, including the use of state-of-the-art technologies. As decision makers understand these challenges and they adopt and support new operations strategies, quality of life and economic vitality are often improved.
During this telecast, national, regional, state and local elected officials will discuss transportation operations. Guests will discuss statewide traffic incident management efforts to reduce fatalities and improve public safety in both urban and rural areas, as well as the value of operating and maintaining the nation's transportation infrastructure to ensure security and global competitiveness. Local and regional representatives will discuss the role of the planning community to assist in the facilitation of national forums for coordination and cooperation.
