The telecast will feature members of the Strengthening America's Communities Advisory Committee. They will discuss the Committee's recommendations to the Secretary of Commerce on the planning and implementation of the Administration's Strengthening America's Communities Initiative (SACI)

The SACI is intended to update and improve the delivery mechanism for federal economic and community development resources that regions receive today.

The overarching premise of the Advisory Committee's report is that globalization has fundamentally changed the American economy. The economic health of our Nation is know now dependent upon the competitiveness of the country's regions. Despite these economic changes, our Nation needs to assure that  policies, organizational structures, and investment strategies meet the needs of the global economy of the 21st century. Building a new system of federal economic and community development is important and should include the investment of its resources in the strengthening of regions and their communities.

The advisory Committee presented its report to the Secretary of Commerce on July 21, 2005. The report is now public and is available at the Initiative's website.
