Evaluate the Telecast

This telecast will focus on the economic development benefits of bolstering free trade.

The American economy is strong and getting stronger. One of the key reasons for America’s economic strength is the growth in U.S. exports – a reflection of our nation’s ability to succeed in the 21st century worldwide marketplace. U.S. exports have increased by 11% over 2006, and for the first time in memory, the rate of growth of our exports is greater than our growth in imports. This has led to a narrowing of our trade deficit by nearly 8% or $30 billion compared to the same period in 2006.

Regions across the nation are enjoying the vast economic opportunities provided by export growth, including job growth, increased business opportunities for small and medium-size firms, and increased tax revenue as businesses succeed in the worldwide economy.

Guests of this show will share their knowledge and experience in the areas of:
  * How to build a regional strategy for expanding exports;
  * How to promote your region in overseas markets;
  * What resources are available to help your region’s businesses tap in to worldwide markets.

The Honorable Sandy K. Baruah, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development
