The National Association of Regional Councils, in partnership with the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District, The Conservation Fund and the USDA Forest Service, is conducting a course as an introduction to Green Infrastructure and Community-Based Conservation for Regional Planning from June 4 to 5, 2007, in Jackson, MS.

This unique course is based on the Conservation Fund’s national course, Strategic Conservation Using a Green Infrastructure Approach, provides a strategic approach for prioritizing conservation opportunities and a planning framework for conservation and development, integrating green and gray infrastructure.

Through hands-on class projects, lectures, and case studies, participants will experience firsthand how the green infrastructure approach can be used to connect environmental, social, and economic health across urban, suburban, and rural settings. Participants will also learn how green infrastructure planning can serve as a tool to inform land-use decisions and build consensus among diverse interests.

Additionally, the course will feature the innovative and growing movement of US Landcare as an implementation tool for Green Infrastructure (GI). US Landcare is a partnership of diverse people and organizations intent on rallying broad public participation for conservation-based actions through local groups. US Landcare groups are community-based groups of volunteers working on conservation projects that contribute to environmental, social, and economic outcomes. Groups include individuals from various sectors of society including people who work the land, other community members, businesses, and governments.
