8-Hour Ozone and Fine Particulate Matter: New Standards, New Challenges, New Strategies
8-Hour Ozone and Fine Particulate Matter: New Standards, New Challenges, New Strategies
This session will provide Regional Councils and MPOs the latest information on EPA’s upcoming regulation for implementing the 8-hour ozone and PM-2.5 (fine particulate matter) national ambient air quality standard (NAAQS). A final rule for PM-2.5 is required by September 27, 2006 per a court issued consent agreement. Implementation of revised regulations for PM-2.5 and the 8-hour ozone NAAQS presents challenges to local governments as they attempt to balance regional growth with the need to improve air quality. To help meet these challenges, three panels will address a variety of topics focused on the regulatory framework and processes, state and local challenges for developing emission reduction programs, and local successes for adapting to these challenges. The workshop is intended to be interactive, with time allocated for questions and answers. Displays, informational materials, and an opportunity to interact with planners and resource providers will be available.
