NARC Celebrates Regional Leadership and Excellence

The National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) presented its 2013 General Achievement and Leadership Awards at its 47th Annual Conference and Exhibition, in Philadelphia, PA on June 26, 2013.

“We are excited to present our annual awards, which recognize regional excellence and successful programs across the country,” said NARC President Penny Gross, Supervisor, Fairfax County, VA. “These awards represent a fraction of the important work of our members. We thank our award nominees and winners alike for their dedication to regionalism and look forward to showcasing these and many other leaders and programs.”

NARC General Achievement Awards recognize excellence in programs and service of regional councils and metropolitan planning organizations.  The 2013 Achievement Award winners are:

Major Metro: North Central Texas Council of Governments, Aviation Education Initiative
Medium Metro: Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, 2013 State of the People of the Pioneer Valley Project
Rural: Green River Area Development District, The Art of Regionalism Art Contest & Exchange

NARC awarded two Leadership Awards: the Tom Bradley Leadership Award and the Walter Scheiber Leadership Award. The Bradley Award recognizes excellence by an elected or appointed policy official in advocating regional concepts, approaches and programs at all levels of government; the Scheiber Award recognizes the significant impacts an Executive Director has made at the local, state and national levels. The 2013 Leadership Award winners are:

Bradley Award: Hon. Matthew Holt, Freeholder, Hunterdon County, NJ; Board Member, North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority; and Board Member, NARC
Scheiber Award: John Getchey, Executive Director, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments
