NARC Opposes Pompeo Economic Development Administration Elimination Amendment

Immediately Contact Your Member of Congress to Vote “No”

Washington, DC (May 29, 2014) – The National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) Executive Director Joanna Turner, issued the following statement concerning Congressman Mike Pompeo’s (R-KS, 4) amendment to eliminate funding for the Economic Development Administration (EDA) in the fiscal year 2015 Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations bill.

“NARC strongly opposes the Pompeo amendment that would wipe out EDA’s entire budget. EDA provides vital resources for distressed communities to improve local economies through bottom-up economic development strategies, allowing local governments and regions to promote economic vitality. EDA is the only federal agency focused solely on private sector job growth, providing needed public investment in infrastructure development and job creation, which boosts local, regional and national economies. EDA requires funding to carry out its important mission in local governments, regions and communities across the country.”

NARC urges its members to contact delegates in the U.S. House of Representatives to vote “No” on the Pompeo amendment. Click HERE for talking points. Click HERE to access a listing of U.S. House members.
