Cameron Moore Named New NARC Executive Director
Washington, D.C. - The Board of Directors of the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) selected Cameron Moore as the organization's executive director after an extensive nationwide search. The Board voted unanimously to name Moore to the position at its February 6, 2006 meeting. Moore will begin his new position on May 1, taking over for retiring NARC Executive Director Robert Sokolowski.
Moore has served in several top positions with regional and local economic development organizations, including most recently as President and CEO of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, which provides a wide-range of economic and community development services, including business financing, international trade assistance and transportation planning. Moore is credited with effectively advocating for regional development and forging numerous successful public-private partnerships.
"NARC looks forward to working with Cameron Moore and building an even stronger association of regional councils and Metropolitan Planning Organizations," said NARC President Randall Morris, a Commissioner with Seminole County, Florida and a member of the East Central Florida
Regional Planning Council. "NARC and its members have been at the forefront of regional innovation in such areas as economic development, transportation planning, and homeland security. With Cameron Moore at the helm, NARC expects to rise to an even higher level of achievement and impact," he added.
Several NARC Board members stressed Moore's extensive management experience in selecting him as the Executive Director. "Cameron Moore brings more than 20 years of leadership experience to NARC," said John P. Thompson, Polk County, Texas Judge, member of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments, NARC president-elect and chairman of the national search committee. "He clearly demonstrated outstanding management skills in challenging regional development positions in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Iowa and Illinois that will now be focused on making NARC the pre-eminent national voice for regional councils and Metropolitan Planning Organizations."
In addition to his position with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, Moore held executive management positions with the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Flagstaff Economic Council, and the Southeastern Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
"Throughout my career I have been an advocate and practitioner of regional cooperation as one of the most effective ways to successfully address community planning and development challenges and opportunities. Serving as executive director of NARC provides a great opportunity to further promote regional cooperation and the value of regional councils and Metropolitan Planning Organizations," Moore commented.
