Key federal programs important to regions need protecting in FY2017 appropriations legislation. Several of these programs are addressed by “Dear Colleague” letters currently circulating in Congress. If these programs benefit your organization or region, we urge you to contact your House and Senate members and ask them to sign on. Please note that the deadlines vary, but all are the week after next.

EDA Funding

Urge Your Congressman to Sustain the FY2016 Enacted Level of $261M

Urge Your Congressman to Continue Sufficient Funding that Supports Regional Industry Clusters and Innovation Strategies

A House letter supporting robust funding for EDA’s Regional Innovation Program is circulating from Representatives David N. Cicilline (D-RI) and Randy Hultgren (R-IL). The Regional Innovation Program encourages and supports the development of regional innovation strategies. This program was funded for the first time in FY2014 and was funded again in the recent FY2016 Omnibus appropriations bill. Urge Your Congressman to Support Robust Appropriations Funding for Clean and Safe Water Infrastructure

A House letter regarding the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (SRFs) is circulating from Transportation & Infrastructure Ranking Member Peter Defazio (D-OR) and other Democrats. The letter recommends a minimum appropriation of $2 billion for each program in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s funding package to address water-related infrastructure challenges. A Senate letter regarding the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is circulating from Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT). The CDBG program helps approximately 1,200 entitlement cities, urban counties, and states meet the needs of low- and moderate-income communities by supporting homeownership, housing rehabilitation, public improvements, and economic development projects while encouraging local investment. Urge Your Senators to Push for OAA Funding Increases

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has again this year circulated a letter to his fellow Senators requesting their signatures in support of a request to Senate Appropriations Labor/HHS/Education Subcommittee leaders to increase funding support to Older Americans Act (OAA) programs by at least 12 percent in FY2017. The annual appropriations process that determines FY 2017 OAA funding is just beginning. This letter will be one of thousands sent to the Appropriations Committee’s leaders asking for particular funding levels for thousands of federal discretionary programs. More details HERE. Urge Your Congressman and Senators to Support Continued Funding for Community Health Centers
